For my Coupon giveaway I asked for comments on your favorite money saving tips, and you all have left some really good ones. I decided to write about the ways that I love to save. My number one way to save is always shop with coupons. When I go shopping, if it is not on sale and I do not have a coupon, most of the time I do not buy it. I know there are many people who say coupons end up costing you more, but I find that if you use them wisely you can save tons of money.
I try to never go shopping when I am hungry. This leads to less impulse buys, and those can add up.
I try to go shopping alone, when I take everyone with me, It is harder to concentrate and I always forget something.
I love shopping at CVS. They can be more expensive on things, but if you watch the sales and combine them with coupons, you can really stock up. I will not have to buy toothpaste, shampoo, shaving cream, or soap for a very long time.
I have also started making one large grocery shopping trip per month. This has worked well for us. I find that Aldi has some really great deals but I live 45 min. away, so once a month I make a list of everything we need, and make the trip. I still have to make weekly trips to the local grocery store for milk, but that is pretty much it. This has saved so much money. I usually spend around $70.00 and most of the time I have things left over at the end of the month.
I make my own baby wipes, and use cloth diapers as much as I can. The baby wipes save a ton, we go through lots of them here at my house. I also boil my own water for formula instead of buying the bottled nursery water.
To save on energy I keep the lights turned off when we are not in the room. We have lowered the temperature on our hot water heater, and I turn off the TV when we are not watching it.
One of my favorite things to do is go to Yard Sales. I have managed to find so many great things this way. I have bought clothes for the entire family, name brand things in excellent condition, curtains, toys, books. You name it, and I have found it. I love the fact that I can pay $1.00 for a brand new Ann Taylor dress that has never been worn. My tip for yard sales is to make sure you check everything really well to make sure it has all of the buttons, the zippers work, and there are no stains or holes.
These are a few of the things that I do to save money. I love hearing about ways that other people have found to save. With today's economy I feel that it is important to save as much as possible. If you have some great tips, please leave me a comment, I would love to learn how to save more.
